Loyalty program
Give points for orders and more, let members spend them on rewards, and bring shoppers back.
Loyalty program
Shoppers earn points for paid orders, creating an account and more, and spend them on rewards: an amount or percent off, free shipping, a free product or store credit. Members see their points in the rewards button on every page, on product pages (“Earn 34 points with this”), in the cart, on the Rewards page, in their customer account and on the thank you page.
The program is on the Growth and Pro plans. Pro adds VIP tiers, bonus campaigns, product and collection rates, cashback, affiliate codes, Klaviyo, Omnisend, Judge.me and Shopify Flow.
Set up (Loyalty in the app)
- Choose what earns points on Earn points: points per 1 of your currency on paid orders (with or without shipping and taxes), extra points on the first order, points for creating an account, birthdays, social follows and product reviews. Customers with a tag you list (for example wholesale) can’t join.
- Add rewards on Rewards: what members spend their points on, how many points each costs and how many days a reward code stays valid.
- Turn the program on on Loyalty home and choose which orders count when it starts (from now on, also the last 30 days, or also the last 90 days). Turning it off stops earning; members keep their points.
- Show the widget: turn on the Conversion boosters embed in your theme (App embeds). The rewards button shows on every page. For the Rewards page, add the Order & wishlist pages block to a page template.
- Make it yours on Look: colours, where the button sits, and every word the widget and the Rewards page show.
Points from an order count once it is paid. A refund or cancellation takes them back. New points can stay pending for some days first (14 by default), so an order that is returned never gives points to spend.
Guest checkouts
Shoppers who check out without an account give their email, and Shopify keeps a customer for it. Choose under Earn points → Accounts → Orders placed as a guest:
- Earn points right away (the default): the points wait for that email. The customer uses them after creating an account or signing in with it. The thank you page and the rewards widget say so.
- Earn points once they create an account: guest orders earn nothing at first. When the customer creates an account with the email they used, their orders since the program started earn points.
- Don’t earn points: only customers with an account earn.
Orders placed before the program started (or before it was turned on again) never earn points.
Points shop
On Points shop, add products members get with their points, or with points plus a smaller price (for example 800 points + $10). For each product choose who sees it: everyone (shoppers without enough points see how many more they need), only members with enough points, or members from a number of points, so they can work toward it. A limit per customer is optional.
Members get it from a button on the product page, under your buy buttons, and from the Points shop list in the rewards panel and on the Rewards page. The option they chose goes in their cart with a code for one item, only for them.
- Only with points: your add to cart button is hidden on the product’s page, and checkout refuses the product without the member’s code.
- Hide it from collections and search (with Only with points): the product is Unlisted in Shopify, so only the Points shop opens it. It is listed again when you turn this off or remove the product.
- Keep a Points shop collection: a collection named Points shop holds the products and stays in step. Add it to a menu in Online Store → Navigation. Product cards in collections show the points price.
The Points shop is on the Growth and Pro plans.
Referrals
On Referrals, members share their own link: a friend gets a discount on their first order, and the member gets a gift once that order is paid. Fraud rules limit how many referrals a member is rewarded for in 30 days. On Pro, affiliate codes count the sales of creators and partners (you pay their commission yourself).
Emails (coming soon)
Soon, on Emails, the app will tell members what they earned and when a reward is ready: welcome, points earned, reward ready, reward code, store credit added, birthday and points about to expire, among others. Reminders (birthday, points about to expire, the monthly summary) only go to members who agreed to email marketing, and every email has an unsubscribe link and your store’s address. On Pro you can send from your own address.
Members and analytics
Members lists everyone in the program with their points and history; you can add or take away points, and export or import members as a CSV file. Analytics shows members over time, points earned and spent, the rewards redeemed most and referrals.
Plan limits
Growth includes 500 orders that earn points a month; Pro includes 2,000. At the limit, orders stop earning until next month, unless you turn on Allow extra under the usage bar (Loyalty home or Settings): then they go on, and the extra is added to your Shopify bill. The bars show how much of each limit is used. Extras are on monthly billing: on a yearly plan (Growth yearly, Pro yearly) the limits stop for the month.
